On April 13th Nice Côte d’Azur Airport inaugurated the extension of its Terminal 2, marking a key milestone in the delivery of future‑proof infrastructure for one of the country’s leading tourism and business destinations. Guided by shared sustainability principles as part of an ongoing journey, the expansion supports long‑term regional development, with capacity rising to 18 million passengers per year.

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport serves a geographically unique and expansive area, stretching from western Var to northern Italy and including the Principality of Monaco, spanning three countries. As the capacity of France’s second‑largest airport, originally set at 14 million passengers per year, had been significantly exceeded since 2019, the extension of Terminal 2 was designed to maintain high levels of service and ensure the efficient management of passenger flows for both departures and arrivals, across Schengen and non‑Schengen flights.

Designed by the architectural firm Stéphane Aurel, the entire complex covers approximately 23,000 m², representing a 31% increase in passenger‑accessible space and aligning with the airport’s expanded capacity, now reaching 18 million passengers per year.
More than a physical expansion, the project reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and marks a further step in a path already underway. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, powered by 100% renewable electricity since 2015, has recently achieved Level 5 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA 5) programme, joining only 4% of airports worldwide to reach this level. This milestone is fully aligned with our Group’s broader climate journey, which has reduced overall greenhouse‑gas emissions by 43% since 2019, with the ambition of achieving net zero by 2040.
Without any artificial reclamation of land and with a strong focus on sustainability criteria, the expansion is comprised of three phases:

  • First, an enlargement of the departure lounge for non-Schengen flights, the creation of a new passport control area for departures, shops, and a VIP lounge. This first phase was completed before summer 2025.
  • The second phase consists of a terminal providing direct access to the six existing aircraft stands, eliminating the need for shuttle buses and allowing for the simultaneous processing of passengers regardless of their country of origin or destination. It will become operational next week.
  • Finally, a module with 36 check-in counters and an additional baggage handling system will be operational by the end of the month, before the peak tourist season.

«The completion of this Terminal demonstrates our Group’s ability to deliver strategic investments in the regions where we operate, maintaining constant dialogue with institutions and local communities. I would like to thank the management and all the workers of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur for this important achievement, which sustainably and structurally enhances the attractiveness of France’s second-largest airport. Mundys is a European industrial group with a long-term vision that considers France a key country: over the years, we have invested more than €11 billion in the country’s infrastructure sector, creating new jobs and increasing the competitiveness of local areas. This is the path we will continue to follow » stated Alessandro Benetton, Chairman of Mundys, main shareholder of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur.
